MDT Ckye-Pod Gen 2 Review
I received my Ckye-Pod Gen 2 competition bipod today, and at first, I was disappointed that I had waited so long to get the Ckye-Pod Gen 2, but after looking at the bipod further, I realized the wait was worth it!
In fairness to MDT, I received the Ckye-Pod Gen 2 without a description of the new bipod or a box identifying it as a Ckye-Pod Gen 2. I had an issue with my previous Ckye-Pod Gen 1 that I had ordered during their infamous Black Friday sale and was offered an opportunity to upgrade to a Ckye-Pod Gen 2.
At first glance, there is not a significant difference. The build is typical MDT flawless quality control, and the bipod felt very similar to the Ckye-Pod Gen 1 until you look deeper and realize this new bipod is a game-changer.
The first significant improvement is the tool-less cant adjustment. Having used the previous Ckye-Pod Gen 1 for hunting and shooting competitions, I recognized this as a considerable upgrade. I never had my old Ckye-Pod Gen 1 become loose in the field, but I had forgotten to tighten it back up for competitions.
The second prominent feature was the lockable pan. If you are only using your Ckye-Pod for hunting, this might be a hindrance, but it is fantastic for competitions! The lock is smooth and solid, and I'm looking forward to trying it out in real-time at the next match in the spring.
Which would I recommend buying when comparing the Ckye-Pod Gen 1 vs. Ckye-Pod Gen 2? It depends on what you are looking for in a bipod. If your primary focus is hunting, I would recommend looking at a triple pull Ckye-Pod Gen 1 to allow the hunter to shoot from the sitting position. Unless a deer or coyote is running past your shooting bench, odds are the terrain is challenging at best for a shorter bipod, and a lockable cant adjustment could mean disaster in a hurried hunting situation.
If you are looking for a strictly competition bipod, Ckye-Pod Gen 2 without question!
