Bowtech Reign 6 Review
After developing my shooting and stalking skills using the Diamondback SB-1, I started researching the next level bow that I wanted to step into as my lifetime bow. It took many hours of research and time at the local archery shop looking at and shooting bows (I am sure I drove Chico nuts at North Pro Sports) before I settled on buying a Bowtech Reign 6.
Once I shot the Bowtech Reign 6, I was hooked. Every part of the bow impressed me, from the fit and finish, tunability, smooth draw, and of course, most importantly, the most accurate bow I have ever shot.
I picked up the Reign 6 at North Pro Sports in Saskatoon. Chico is fantastic at his job and was very patient as we setup up my new bow. Now on to accessories… I wanted to mount the Burris Oracle bow sight, but it was still unavailable, and I choose to set up, so I decided on the Garmin Xero A1i, which I will review here. The Reign 6 and Garmin seem to mesh right off the hop, and it was easy to sight in the bow at the shop.
I did end up adding Dead Center Archery Products stabilizers to the bow later, but I wanted to shoot the bow and get a better understanding of what it needed before adding a bunch of unnecessary accessories.
I also paired the bow with Carbon Express Maxima Red arrows. I found the combination of the Reign 6 and the Carbon Express arrows were a perfect match and performed flawlessly.
Fit and Finish
The fit and finish of the Bowtech Reign 6 were outstanding. From the moment you pick up the bow, it felt expensive and deadly. Comparing this to some of the other rigs I had tried, the only comparison was the Hoyt Pro Defiant. After a complete comparison of the two bows, such as the smooth draw and dead in hand feel after the shot, the Reign 6 was hands down the winner by a mile
Tunability
Being relatively new to archery, I was a little hesitant about trying to tune a 6” brace height bow since I had heard about people having trouble getting the bow to shoot perfect, but I had no issues with the Reign 6. After the initial setup by North Pro Sports, I had minimal tuning to do once I got home, but after owning the Regin 6 for a year, I did need to adjust for the string stretching, and it was easy to do. Bowtech has been known to make bows easy for the do-it-yourselfer, and they did not fail on the Reign 6.
Accuracy
After pairing the Bowtech Reign 6 with the Garmin Xero A1i, I was hesitant about the two since I had never used a holographic sight, especially from a company that is not known for the optics in either rifle or archery. After the initial setup of the Garmin Xero A1i, I was quickly hitting accurately on any my Bulldog Doghouse Target at any range out to 60 yards. It was a sensational feeling drawing back the Reign 6, letting the arrow fly, and hearing the satisfying “thud” as the arrow impacted the target.
I have owned the bow for close to a year now, and every time I shoot the Bowtech Reign 6, it still amazes me. Bowtech hit it out of the park with the Reign 6!
