Review – Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazine

***Update***  After posting this article, I contacted Alberta Tactical about the magazine issue and they advised me of a problem with their first run of AT15 magazines.  Alberta Tactical is sending me two replacement magazines and I have to compliment them on their fantastic customer service.  I will write a new review once I receive the new AT15 magazines. After acquiring my Mossberg MVP Varmint rifle, I continue to test out different AR-15 style magazines to find the best brand on the market.  After pre-ordering two of the Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazine, and waiting patiently for them to arrive, I was able to test out the magazine last week with mixed results.

Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazine

This is the first 10 round magazine that Alberta Tactical designed and the overall build feels great.  The shell is a high-grade composite material that feels strong and should be able to handle anything the average hunter or range plinker could throw at it.

Alberta Tactical also designed the magazine to be longer than the 10 round capacity to help aid in magazine changes.  I am not fully convinced that the extra length helps the magazine changes but it does look better in my Mossberg MVP Varmint rifle than other smaller LAR-15 magazines.

When I loaded the Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazines for the first time, I noticed the first round did not seat properly in both magazines and I needed to remove it with force.  I tried again and the same issue occurred.  Prior to shooting the magazines, I thought this was how they were designed and continued to load the additional nine rounds into both LAR-15 style magazines and headed out to my homemade range.

Both magazines seated perfectly into my Mossberg MVP Varmint rifle and both fed the first round perfectly.  I have noticed that depending on the model of LAR-15 magazine, they work perfectly or horribly.  So far so good.

Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazine

After shooting nine rounds through my Mossberg MVP rifle, the bolt would not pick up the tenth round.  Looking at the magazine it did not take long to discover why.  The last round did not pop up properly and was sitting below where the round needed to be.  I fiddled with the magazine but the last round would not budge without some sort of pry bar.

I set the first magazine aside and tried the second one.  Again seated perfectly the first time, cycled the first round in with no issues, and the first nine rounds shot without incident but again it did not feed the tenth round.

After removing the Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazine, it had the same issue as the first one.  The last round was jammed well below where it needed to be.

I will give the Alberta Tactical AT15 10rd Pistol Magazine two out of five stars, as it is still better to have a nine round magazine than a three or five round magazine.  Alberta Tactical has built a good first draft of the LAR-15 style magazine but there is room for improvment.
